Why does personal experience p for scientific truth in modern feminism?

In 1963 when "The Feminine Mystique" was published, there was no feminism, no women's studies, absolutely no nothing. She wrote the book to expose the myth that women could only be fulfilled being homemakers. It had an immediate response from women, not only in the USA, but over the whole of Europe.
