Is it possible to get fatter while ur dieting and exercising?

i have been dieting and doing strenuous exercise for at least an hour and a half a day he past week. i have lost 6 pounds according to the scale, however my clothes feel tighter. i have been doing about 85% cardio to burn the fat and maybe 15% weight training. i feel like im getting fatter although the scale says i have lost. i am NOT pregnant either. so whats up with this? is it all in my head? how long, on avg, does it take b4 u actually SEE results? AND i have NO thyroid or any other health problems except for being over weight.
