Why are women's Halloween costumes so slutty?

I know this is still a couple of months away, but everything at my local costume shop seems to revolve around skimpy witch, cat, nurse, pirate, etc. outfits. My friends keep telling me I'd look hot in any of these, but I'm not really comfortable with it. What can I do?
